The duo fly out tomorrow, Tamworth-bound, for the Australian under-16 basketball championships.
This will be Muir and Brugman’s first time playing for Vic Country. They say they are proud and can hardly wait to pull on the guernsey.
“It’s pretty amazing and so exciting but I feel a bit nervous at the same time,” Brugman said.
Vic Country selections started early this year. A four-day camp in Ballarat finalised a 10-play squad with four emergencies for the tournament. The roster has then trekked across Victoria, in different regional locations, to train each weekend.
Muir said training sessions alone had been really valuable in developing her game.
“It has been really challenging but the skills work has been good,” Muir said.
“You’re always training at a higher level than what we’re used to and it’s more challenging. I think the girls we train with all make us lift our game a bit.”
Muir (Saints) and Brugman (Exies Acmy) play with Ballarat in the Victorian Junior Basketball League and said state squad was a whole new level higher.
They were excited to hit the court for the championships, which start Saturday, for a hectic eight-day schedule.
