Tony broke his own personal best three times and held the record for the lake until it was broken by Steve Moneghetti, whom he four years prior to taking the position as National Coach of the Philippines in 1979.
Tony was awarded Ballarat Sportsman of the Year four times, and is a member of the Ballarat Hall of Fame.
He had great success internationally, being ranked fifth in the world for 5000 metres in 1971 and also recorded the eighth fastest 3000 metres of all time to break Ron Clarke's Australian record.
Tony represented Australia at the Munich Olympics in 1972. He also enjoyed a long career in Athletics coaching, including being the head coach of the Australian athletics team.
