A waterbombing helicopter was deployed to a grassfire at Ascot, north of Ballarat, on Monday afternoon.

Seven tankers and the aircraft managed to contain the blaze after it burnt through about four hectares of stubble near Cattle Station Hill Road about 12.15pm.
CFA District 15 duty officer Gavin Hope said a slasher sparked the fire.
“It’s still so dry and fires can start very easily,” he said.
“We are having a lot of small fires start on days with low winds.”
On Saturday, it took 10 tankers and a helicopter to put out a grassfire in Durham Lead, south of Ballarat.

The fire, located on the corner of Sand and Rosenows roads, was called in about 5pm less than a kilometre from the Clarendon plantation.

Crews had the fire under control within 45 minutes and remained on scene, with an advice warning issued about 6.30pm urging residents to stay informed and monitor conditions.
It destroyed a landholder’s vehicle and threatened a property at one point.
